Officials Tax Department on strike

Minister Jose JardimWILLEMSTAD – Officials working at the Country’s Tax Department laid down their work this morning. This was confirmed by the Civil Servant’s Union ABVO board member, Marlon Manuela. The Union will meet with the Civil Servants from early morning, during working hours, to talk about the lost compensations, which the government workers received until this month.

“It depends on many factors to how much money we are talking about. But it looks like it is going to be ten percent of the salary,” Manuela explains. This allowance was paid monthly to officials since 2006. The contribution, explains Manuela, stems from an agreement in 2006. The payment would be stopped by 2010 but was paid in 2011 and 2012. The Minister of Finance, Dr. Jose Jardim, has now decided that the contribution will stop today. It's part of the salary to which people count on, and that is suddenly decreased,” says Manuela.
