PAR leader Emily de Jongh-Elhage announced her resignation

WILLEMSTAD – During the fundraising dinner organized by the political party PAR, Emily de Jongh Elhage, standing on the stage with party founder, party leader and former Prime Minister of the Netherlands Antilles Mr. Miguel Pourier and former party leader and also Prime Minister of the Netherlands Antilles Etienne Ys, announced that she will resign as party leader and also as member of the Curacao Parliament as per January 1, 2013.

Her decision comes after the party has lost 50% of its seats in Parliament after the elections of October 19. She was the last Prime Minister of the Netherlands Antilles and became well known for her efforts in helping Curacao become an autonomous country within the Dutch Kingdom.

De Jongh-Elhage is of Lebanese descent and a member of the Council of Women World Leaders, an International network of current and former women presidents and prime ministers whose mission is to mobilize the highest-level women leaders globally for collective action on issues of critical importance to women and equitable development.
