PAR wants proof of discovery natural gas

WILLEMSTAD - Opposition party PAR wants Pueblo Soberano leader Helmin Wiels to come up with evidence that the Government of Prime Minister Schotte has discovered petroleum and gas, and that PAR is planning to give the largest part of these minerals to the Netherlands.

The discussion about the presence of natural gas in the territory of Curaçao has been going on for years. During its reign the PAR would have allowed research on the presence of natural gas. MFK-leader Gerrit Schotte already tried before his investiture as Prime Minister to get documents on the possibility of oil drilling.

Wiels accused the opposition of hypocrisy shortly after the installation of the Government of Prime Minister Schotte. Demissionary Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte claimed in 2010 that the Governemnt of Prime Minister De Jongh-Elhage signed three contracts with oil exploitation companies but that the documents proving this oil drilling disappeared.

According to PAR-member Omayra Leeflang, Wiels is using these accusations for campaign purposes. "In the campaign they come with lies that the PAR would have come up with a law in which most of Curacao minerals will go to the Netherlands.  We dare Helmin Wiels to come up with the evidence of those documents, "said Leeflang.

The political party Pueblo Soberano started spreading a homemade documentary last week called ' Ta Basta' (Enough). In this documentary Wiels accuses the Netherlands of wanting to steal the natural gas and petroleum from Curaçao. "The fact is that Wiels has not done anything for the people and now he wants war with the Netherlands to continue with its irresponsible struggle for independence without consulting with the people in a referendum. "There are votes attracted with lies," according to Leeflang.
