Parliament wants Government to explain its sports policy

AsjesWILLEMSTAD – Various Members of Parliament asked Prime Minister Ivar Asjes and Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Irene Dick for clarity on the sports policy of the government. Especially the way the government wants to set up the new national sports institute, Instituto Fundashon Nashonal di Deporte Kòrsou (FINDK), gave rise to many questions this morning during a public meeting of Parliament.

Premier Asjes announced the creation of FINDK per January 1, 2015.

This implies that the two sports foundations which now receive funding from the government, namely Sedreko and Fundashon Fasilidatnan Deportivo Kòrsou (FFDK) would cease to exist. The staff will have to go through an application process to continue in the new sports organization.

The government plans are reason for commotion among the staff of both foundations and throughout the world of sports on the island. A protest meeting of stakeholders was held to voice their concerns about the plans of the government.

This morning’s meeting was at the request of the opposition party MFK.
