Plasterk agrees with Curacao’s loan request

Ronald PlasterkWILLEMSTAD - Minister Ronald Plasterk (Kingdom Relations) supports the positive reaction of the Committee for Financial Supervision (CFT) on a loan request of 60 million guilders from Curacao. According to the CFT, Curaçao has met all the requirements for the granting of loans.

On July 13, 2012 Curaçao received a financial restriction from the Kingdom Council of Ministers because of the alleged financial mismanagement of the Government headed by former Gerrit Schotte. That meant that the government was no longer allowed to take new loans until the 2013 budget was back in balance. October of last year, the committee indicated that Curacao was on the right track again. The financial restrictions were dismissed on March 7 of this year.

“On a positive opinion of the CFT, the Netherlands can, in accordance with Article 16 of the Financial Supervision Act, subscribe to the loans to Curaçao or Sint Maarten,” the minister said in a letter to the Dutch Parliament.
