Plasterk: ‘Gay Pride is a Curacao matter’

Ronald PlasterkWILLEMSTAD - Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations Ronald Plasterk has answered parliamentary questions about the Gay Pride. He considers it a matter of Curaçao. Earlier there was a commotion when the Pride was moved at the last minute after additional requirements of the authorities.

Plasterk leaves his personal opinion in the middle. “As you know, maintaining public order and security are tasks which belongs to the government of the autonomous country Curaçao. It is up to the government of Curaçao to the extent it is necessary to establish additional requirements to the Gay Pride organization so to maintain public order. The considerations made thereby, are not known to me as this is a matter independent of the country Curaçao, "said Plasterk in the letter.

He points out that the letter of parliamentarian Winnie Raveneau was written in a personal capacity and that the safety and freedom of expression of LGBT ( lesbians , gays , bisexuals and transgender ) was not in danger.
