Prime Minister meets with refinery representatives

PrimeMinister_RefineryWILLEMSTAD - The Prime Minister of Curaçao Eugene Rhuggenaath, who is also responsible for the refinery, met with the management of both Isla and the public company Curaçao Refinery (RdK). The unions representing the refinery employees were also present during this meeting.

The Prime Minister announced on his social media that the meeting was to ensure the planned start-up of the refinery. He says; “It looks like we are up and running again in December. We are going for it!”

This is a very good news for the economy of the island. Since the American company ConocoPhillips has seized assets from the Venezuelan State Oil Company PDVSA, Curaçao has seen its harbor activities decline drastically. Even the towing company has sounded the bell saying that it is in a dangerous financial position and that it would not rule out layoffs.
