Prime Minister: “PDVSA’s cooperation needed in study modernization oil refinery”

Eugene-RhuggenaathWILLEMSTAD - According to the Prime Minister of Curaçao Eugene Rhuggenaath, the cooperation of the Venezuelan State Oil Company PDVSA is needed in the study of the modernization of the refinery. This is one of the reasons why he will meet with the new director of the Isla Refinery, Vanessa Flores this week. She recently succeeded the former Director Luis Rivas.

The consultation is very important because the Isla has so far had no contact with the government about the role of the refinery in a possible modernization by Guangdong Zhenrong Energy (GZE). The study of the modernization of the refinery requires the cooperation of the Isla.

GZE has a preference for modernization of the Isla, but will also conduct a feasibility study for the construction of a new refinery at Bullenbaai. Rhuggenaath recently informed that the latter is still included in an addendum to the Heads of Agreement. The Prime Minister expects the addendum to be signed in the first or second week of September, negotiations with GZE are under way. In the past, GZE stated its willingness to cooperate with PDVSA, which is the current refinery operator.
