Salaries SVB insured will not be seized

svb buildingWILLEMSTAD – The Prime Minister of Curacao, Ivar Asjes stated to the media that no burden will be placed on the salary of those who are insured at the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) and who have not complied with the basic insurance nominal premium. In consultation with the Tax Collector, the SVB will send a payment reminder to those who did not comply with the payment.

Earlier reports indicated that the Tax Inspectorate will seize the salary of 80,000 SVB insured. According to the Prime Minister, this information is incorrect and incomplete. Asjes said that the news led to unnecessary anxiety according Asjes. In an earlier statement, the Prime Minister also indicated that the news came from those who are trying to discredit his government.

95 thousand people have an insurance card from the SVB. However, only 9,500 insured have actually paid the nominal contribution.

In February 2013 the basic went into force. Insured persons who are over eighteen years old and have an income of at least twelve thousand guilders per year have to pay 82 guilders. According to the law, the citizens have to pay at least half of the premium before January 30 of each fiscal year. On June 30 of the same tax year, the second half must be paid.

A reminder (2013) will be sent out to all insured. In addition, all employers will receive an invoice which will have to be paid before the end of June 2014 in accordance with the law. Subsequently, a separate invoice will be sent for payment of the nominal fee for 2014. The payments can be made at any bank or at the counter of the Tax Inspectorate at Regentesselaan. If there are arrears after the end of June, then the legal process will be put in motion by the end of October.
