Students Feffik protest

feffikWILLEMSTAD - Students of the vocational training center Feffik who refused to enroll in other schools in May blocked the entrance to the building yesterday morning.

They do not agree that they are no longer admitted to Feffik. Furthermore, they would automatically want to be admitted to one of the other courses.

Earlier this year the government decided to close the Feffik, but returned to that decision after many protests. The Feffik will now be gradually phased out.

According to an annoyed Luty Alberto, interim director of Feffik, the government must take steps.

Trade union Sitek believes that the Council of Ministers must make the decision to offer students the opportunity to register for level 2. According to President of the union Darius Plantijn, the situation will be discussed during a platform dialogue.

Later during the day, the government announced that Feffik may keep its doors open for another year. The vocational school will receive a government subsidy.

The government wants to get rid of Feffik because of financial problems and bad management. Instead, a new institute for vocationally-oriented education must be put in place.
