Taskforce Nation Building: “More dialogue needed”

Curacao Government CenterWILLEMSTAD – Not enough dialogue, too much argument and too little tolerance between the people on Curacao. These are reasons for the government to set up a Task Force to establish a Nation Building. This is according to the chairman of the Task Force, Raymond ‘Pacheco’ Römer.

He refers not only to political discussions, but also in sports and parties, according to him there is too much argument. "People need to communicate with each other and understand that they are not alone in the world. It involves the development of men. As man evolves, the community develops,” Romer said.

The Nation Building Task Force will develop a plan and then discuss with the government how this plan will be implemented. “We have to start with the youth and bring them patriotism. This must be by means of education,” Romer said. The plan is to work with different platforms, associations and foundations together. Romer believes that instead of fighting each other, we need to help one another.” People must again be proud of their island,” the chairman said.

The Task Force consists of people from the government and a number of volunteers who receive an expense allowance. The budget for the Task Force is five hundred thousand guilders.
