Taxis and tour buses must have special pass to pick up tourists

Curacao-TaxiWILLEMSTAD – In a meeting held between the union representing taxi drivers and the Curacao Port Authorities (CPA), the union representatives received the news that from taxis and tour buses will need a special pass to enter CPA’s properties to pick up tourists.

CPA explained that the objective of this measure is to give better service to the tourists. The union president, Rignald Sling indicated that on April 27 the union will hold a meeting with its members to discuss this measure taken by the CPA. In this meeting the taxi drivers will either approve or disapprove this new measure.

The union is working hard to resolve various issues concerning taxi drivers. First, they had to deal with Curacao Airport Partners about the situation at the airport. Now it is the CPA’s turn, which operates the harbor and surrounding.

CPA indicated that they want to start regulating who enters their properties. The company wants to set certain requirements for the use of their facilities, especially where cruise ships dock. Some measures are the parking area for taxis and tour buses. CAP wants to also delineate how to offer services to the tourists. This is necessary to bring an end to fighting between taxi drivers, which doesn’t give a nice image to the island.
