The Netherlands cannot call Wiels to order

Marvelyne-Wiels-2014-61THE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD – The Dutch government cannot call the discredited Minister Plenipotentiary of Curacao, Marvelyne Wiels to order. This is according to an advice given by the Council of State. The MP for the Socialist party SP, Ronald van Raak wanted to know whether Prime Minister Mark Rutte could deny Wiels entry to the Kingdom Council of Ministers.

The Council of State concludes that Rutte cannot keep a Minister Plenipotentiary of any of the countries in the Dutch Kingdom from participating in the consultative organ of these countries.

Since Wiels took office last year as Minister Plenipotentiary of Curacao, she got herself several times in disrepute. She was accused of resume fraud, waste of taxpayer money, abuse of power, cronyism and nepotism. She even called her predecessor a “faggot with a pink thong”. “She continues to misbehave and we can do nothing about it,” Van Raak said today. “So now it appears that we cannot call her to order in the Kingdom Council of Ministers.”

The Member of Parliament recognizes that it is the Parliament of Curacao’s responsibility to call her to order if there is a reason to it. “But ultimately, we are also responsible for good governance in the countries of the Kingdom. And Wiels must adhere to our rules.”

The advice given by the Council of State is reason again to discuss the organization of the Kingdom in parliament, according to Van Raak. The Dutch government said earlier that only the Government and Parliament of Curaçao can act against Wiels. The Netherlands does not have such competence.
