Twelve candidates for Pueblo Soberano Board

Pueblo SoberanoWILLEMSTAD – The Curacao’s largest ruling party, Pueblo Soberano (PS) is gearing up for the election of a new Board. The general membership meeting will take place on August 10 of this year. Here the members will have the opportunity to elect the parties new administrators.

After the death of the leader and founder of the party, Helmin Wiels, the party found itself in troublesome times. The former Board clashed with the five members of Parliament on the issue of who’s to become Prime Minister and how the Government should be formed. The former party president, Donald Balentien was deposed by the members and Melvin Cijntje was then appointed as interim president of the party.

Melvin Cijntje declared to the media that so far there has been 12 candidates to participate in the election. These candidates are for the various positions on the Board.

The former vice-president and brother of the deceased leader, Aubert Wiels already announced he will fight in court. According to Wiels, the former Board was illegally deposed. Cijntje does not think it will go that far, but he’s ready to go to court if necessary.
