WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Minister of Justice emphasized during a press briefing yesterday that he will remain responsible for safety and public order throughout the Carnival period. As part of efforts to ensure security, the government has once again launched the “Aktua robes sintié un bes” initiative, which is a collaboration between several entities, including the Public Prosecutor's Office, the police, Royal Military Constabulary, and the VKC.
The initiative focuses on maintaining public order with a zero-tolerance policy during the Carnival festivities. The police have been instructed to take strict action against individuals who violate the rules, with no room for discussions or arguments. "Everyone must follow the rules," said the minister, reinforcing the government's commitment to maintaining a safe environment for all during the celebrations.
Carnival activities will officially begin on Sunday, with the children’s parade, and will culminate on March 5th. A significant police presence is expected on the streets during the parades to ensure security.
In addition to enforcing public order, young people will also be approached during Carnival for informational sessions on various topics, including safe sex, the use of alcohol, drugs, and the dangers of using nitrous oxide (laughing gas).
The government’s actions demonstrate their commitment to both enjoyment and safety during one of the island’s most festive periods.
