WILLEMSTAD - The new radio station Curaçao.nu has begun test broadcasts this week on frequency 101.1 FM. Listeners tuning in now can already enjoy a non-stop mix of music. The station will officially launch on a fitting date: Monday, November 10 — or 10/11.
The current playlist on 101.1 FM features the best music from past and present, blending hits from the Caribbean region, the Netherlands, and around the world. In the coming weeks, the playlist will be further refined, and listeners will start hearing the first station jingles and announcements.
Head of Radio Maarten Schakel said:
“Behind the scenes, an incredible amount of work is being done to build the studios and set up everything that comes with launching a brand-new radio station. We can’t wait for the official start on November 10. One-Zero-One-One — of course, the only possible date to launch our station on 101.1 FM.”
According to Schakel, the choice of the 101.1 FM frequency was intentional:
“Of the four frequencies that were available for registration last year, this was by far the most appealing. 101.1 is a beautiful number, right in the middle of the FM band, and above all, for many people, it holds a lot of meaning and nostalgic value. We want to honor that and give it a great new purpose.”
More details about the station’s programming lineup will be announced soon through press releases and on the Curaçao.nu news website, where the radio station is based. Within a few weeks, the site will also feature a livestream of the broadcast.
