WILLEMSTAD – A 29-year-old woman, identified as Olga Olmaris Elizabeth Pita da Silva, lost her life on Sunday evening in a tragic accident near the Mangrove Corendon Hotel.
According to police reports, the victim had spent the day at the hotel with a so-called “day pass” and had parked her vehicle at the edge of the mangroves. Later that evening, when she got into her car to leave, she is believed to have fallen ill behind the wheel. This caused her to lose control of the vehicle, which accelerated, struck a concrete object, and plunged into the water.
When emergency services arrived, hotel staff were already in the water near the entrance of the resort, desperately trying to free the woman from her car. Despite immediate assistance from the ambulance team, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fire department eventually recovered the submerged vehicle late in the evening. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, examining possible medical causes as well as the circumstances at the site of the crash.
