WILLEMSTAD - 2BAYS Curaçao and Naval Caribbean Dockyards (NAVCARIB) have signed a cooperation agreement to develop a modern ship repair and maintenance facility on the island. The new facility will be constructed on the Van Leer site in Emmastad, marking a significant step toward strengthening Curaçao’s position as a leading maritime center in the Caribbean.
In the first phase, the facility will focus on the repair of ship hulls, engines, and machinery. In later stages, the operation may expand to include maintenance of offshore equipment. According to both companies, initial activities are expected to begin in 2026.
The project’s launch will depend on the completion of permits, financing, and construction development. Through this initiative, 2BAYS and NAVCARIB aim to serve a specialized segment of the maritime market, particularly vessels that currently travel abroad for repair and maintenance.
By attracting these operations to Curaçao, the companies hope to expand the island’s maritime service offering, create new technical jobs and training opportunities, and maximize the use of existing port infrastructure.
Both parties emphasize that the project represents a long-term investment in Curaçao’s industrial and maritime future, helping to diversify the island’s economy and strengthen its regional competitiveness.
