WILLEMSTAD – Ambulance personnel went on strike yesterday morning, demanding a new management team and greater attention to their concerns, particularly the shortage of ambulances.
A delegation from the healthcare union CBV visited Fort Amsterdam for urgent talks with Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas and Finance Minister Javier Silvania. Prime Minister Pisas expressed understanding for the workers’ grievances.
In response to the unrest, the Supervisory Board has relieved acting director Alwin Keli of his duties and appointed a replacement.
The strike highlights ongoing tensions within Curaçao’s emergency medical services, where staff have repeatedly warned that limited resources undermine their ability to respond effectively to the needs of the public.
