WILLEMSTAD - A tragic accident occurred Saturday afternoon at Playa Forti in Westpunt, where an American tourist lost his life after jumping from the cliff into the sea and failing to resurface, police confirmed.
Around 3:30 p.m., the police control center received a report of an incident involving a tourist. Officers from the Barber station and the Tourist Police (Politur) responded to the scene, where they found the man unresponsive near the shoreline. He showed no signs of life.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the man had jumped from the well-known cliff above the beach — a popular spot among visitors for taking daring leaps into the ocean — but for reasons still unknown, he never resurfaced.
A police physician pronounced him dead at the scene. The Tourist Police have launched a formal investigation following standard procedures for such incidents.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of his family.
