WILLEMSTAD - Electricity and water company Aqualectra has reduced its rates by almost 18 percent in recent months, according to the company’s Managing Director Neysa Isenia. The decrease is largely attributed to Aqualectra’s growing use of renewable energy sources, she told members of Parliament on Thursday.
During a parliamentary session where the utility’s management was invited to provide updates, Isenia explained that Aqualectra’s strategic decision to increase the share of sustainable energy, such as wind power, has directly contributed to lowering production costs.
In addition to expanding renewable energy use, the company has also transitioned to a different type of fuel for its power generation process, further improving efficiency and reducing expenses.
Isenia emphasized that Aqualectra plans to continue investing in renewable energy in the coming years as part of its long-term strategy to enhance energy sustainability and price stability for consumers.
The announcement comes as Aqualectra faces growing expectations from both Parliament and the public to keep energy prices affordable while reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels. According to Isenia, the company’s latest steps mark significant progress toward a more sustainable and cost-efficient energy future for Curaçao.
