WILLEMSTAD – Aqualectra has inaugurated its new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Hòfi Mooi, a facility with a capacity of 25 megawatts/45 megawatt-hours that is expected to play a key role in strengthening Curaçao’s electricity grid.
The advanced installation stores wind-generated energy and is connected to an energy management system. In the event of disruptions or a blackout, the stored energy can be fed back into the grid, ensuring continued power supply.
According to Aqualectra, the project marks a significant step toward reducing dependence on fluctuating weather conditions while enhancing overall grid stability.
The BESS is part of the utility company’s broader strategy to modernize the island’s energy infrastructure and expand the integration of renewable sources into Curaçao’s power supply.
