WILLEMSTAD – An attempted robbery at Popy’s Place restaurant on Caracasbaaiweg ended fatally for one of the suspects on Tuesday evening after an off-duty policewoman intervened.

According to authorities, two men entered the restaurant intending to carry out a robbery. The off-duty officer, who was present at the scene as a customer, immediately drew her service weapon and opened fire. The suspects fled, and the officer gave chase.

On Caracasbaaiweg, one of the suspects was struck by bullets and collapsed shortly afterward. Emergency services arrived quickly but found no signs of life. The second suspect managed to escape and may also have been injured.

Heavy police presence

Multiple police units were deployed to secure the area, which was completely sealed off for investigation.
