Car Crashes into Brass Band Rehearsal, Injuring Several Youths in Willemstad

WILLEMSTAD - What began as an ordinary brass band rehearsal turned into a nightmare on Thursday evening when a speeding car crashed onto the practice grounds near Beuk Horeca, injuring several young people.

According to reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle on Schottegatweg West at high speed, veered off the road, struck a wall, knocked down flagpoles, and came to a stop on a rocky area. Long skid marks on the road indicated the excessive speed at which the car was traveling.

Youths Run for Their Lives

At the time of the crash, a group of young musicians was rehearsing on the site — as they usually do in the evenings to avoid disturbing nearby residents. Another group was practicing choreography nearby.
As the car sped onto the property, the youths ran for their lives. Several were injured, some by flying debris and stones caused by the impact.

Narrow Escape

Witnesses said that only moments before the crash, two girls had been sitting on the edge of the rocks where the vehicle eventually slammed to a stop. “If they had still been there, this could have ended in tragedy,” one bystander said.

Emergency services arrived quickly, and an ambulance provided first aid to the injured on the scene.

Authorities later confirmed that the vehicle involved did not have valid registration or paperwork. The police are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the crash and whether alcohol or reckless driving played a role.
