WILLEMSTAD - The Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS) is urging the public to check their drawers, wallets, and piggy banks for old Netherlands Antillean guilders (ANG). According to the CBCS, around 25 percent of the old currency is still in circulation.
It has now been five months since the Caribbean guilder (XCG) became the official currency of Curaçao and Sint Maarten, following its introduction on March 31. Meanwhile, the BES islands transitioned to the U.S. dollar.
The CBCS reminds residents that banknotes and coins from the former Netherlands Antillean guilder can still be exchanged until the year 2055.
