WILLEMSTAD - The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) will officially launch a new digital platform on Thursday, October 9, allowing residents, researchers, and policymakers to access detailed demographic and socioeconomic data by neighborhood for the first time in Curaçao’s history.
The platform, called the Neighborhood Viewer, is based on data from the 2023 Population and Housing Census and provides an in-depth look at the composition, living conditions, and development of every district on the island.
Launch Event at World Trade Center
During the launch event at the World Trade Center, CBS Director Sean de Boer will officially unveil the tool under the theme “Importansia di data pa bario” (The Importance of Neighborhood Data).
In addition to introducing the Neighborhood Viewer, CBS will also present the first neighborhood profiles, including that of Sapate. Researcher Jeanette Pablo will give a presentation on how this data can be used to design more effective, community-based public policies.
Bringing Policy Closer to the People
According to CBS, the new viewer aims to help decision-makers and organizations align their strategies with the real-life conditions of local communities. The platform is designed to make statistical data more transparent, accessible, and useful for citizens, researchers, and government agencies alike.
“The Neighborhood Viewer represents a step toward data-driven governance,” CBS stated. “By understanding the unique characteristics of each area, we can make policies that truly reflect the needs and realities of our people.”
The launch underscores the growing importance of open, reliable, and up-to-date data for effective local governance and greater civic participation in Curaçao.
