WILLEMSTAD - This week marks the launch of the Climate Adaptation Survey Curaçao 2025, a collaborative initiative between the University of Curaçao (UoC) and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU). The survey is part of the international Climate Adaptation Options Project, under the International Panel on Deltas and Coastal Areas (IPDC) Dutch Caribbean.

The research aims to better understand how people in Curaçao experience the effects of climate change—including heat, heavy rainfall, storms, and sea level rise—and to identify what residents believe is needed to better prepare the island for the future. The findings will directly contribute to the development of Curaçao’s National Climate Adaptation Strategy.
The interviews will be conducted from October 25 to 31 by specially trained UoC students, supervised by the independent research agency RE-Quest. They will approach participants at various public locations, such as supermarkets and hardware stores, for brief conversations lasting about ten minutes.
All data will be handled strictly confidentially and anonymously, and the results will be published only in aggregated form within a public report.
The research team encourages residents to participate if approached:
“Everyone who takes a few minutes to complete this short survey is helping to make Curaçao more resilient to the effects of climate change,” the team stated.
