WILLEMSTAD - Passionistas organizes on February 3rd at Marshe Rondo a collection action from 13:00 to 18:00 for the detainees of Sentro di Detenshon in Korekshon Kòrsou (SDKK), the Curaçao prison. A group of detainees in prison started last year with a project to make handmade bags from (recycled) material. The community is called to collect jeans, denim fabric, textiles, zippers or yarn for SDKK, so that the detainees can continue this project.
Led by Zahir Dalnoot, a group of detainees make handmade bags and upholster small furniture. The prison staff is supporting these detainees. They receive sewing lessons from a professional and the staff helped Zahir Dalnoot to register the brand bags at Bureau of Intellectual Property (BIP). A foundation has also been set up so that to help this project to develop into a company in the future.
All collected material can be delivered to the representatives of SDKK during the Passionistas Pop-Up Fair. On that day, the handmade bags will also be sold. There are also several hobbyists and creative entrepreneurs present to sell their handmade and homemade products. Incidentally, three art exhibitions are presented by artist Yrzah Eisden, Hugo Sjak-Shie (owner of Paluarte) and Instituto Buena Bista (IBB). Children also get their money's worth with the creative workshops that are offered and music is provided by Mitch Devtiq. Admission to this fair is free for everyone and takes place on February 3rd at Marshe Rondo between 13:00 and 18:00.
