WILLEMSTAD – The Court of First Instance officially closed the case against Urvin “Nuto” Wawoe on Wednesday, setting the stage for a long-awaited verdict on September 23.
The trial against Wawoe, one of the alleged leaders of the notorious No Limit Soldiers gang, was heard in Curaçao in June of this year. Prosecutors accuse him of being directly responsible for multiple murders, the smuggling of hundreds of kilos of cocaine, and large-scale money laundering. The Public Prosecution has demanded a life sentence.
Wawoe’s three defense attorneys argue that the evidence presented is insufficient to sustain the charges, insisting that much of the case is built on assumptions and weak links.
The verdict will be delivered on Monday, September 23, at 8:30 a.m.
The No Limit Soldiers, founded in Curaçao, have long been associated with violent crime, drug trafficking, and international criminal networks. Wawoe, who has been on the radar of law enforcement agencies for years, is considered by prosecutors to be a central figure in coordinating operations that stretched beyond the island.
Curaçao Chronicle has previously reported that Wawoe’s arrest and prosecution form part of a broader regional crackdown on organized crime, with Dutch Caribbean authorities working alongside international partners. The outcome of this case is expected to set a precedent for future prosecutions of gang-related criminal leaders.
