Curaçao-Born Construction Worker Killed in Aruba Worksite Accident

ORANJESTAD – A 53-year-old construction worker was killed Tuesday afternoon when a concrete floor collapsed on him during a building project on Avenida Nelson Orlando Oduber in Aruba.

The victim has been identified as Curaçao-born Sigmond Volk, who was employed by a subcontractor specializing in steel structure installations.

Collapse Caused by Support Failure

The fatal accident occurred at around 4:00 p.m. while workers were installing a concrete floor on the first level of the structure. According to initial reports, the floor came crashing down after one of its support points gave way, striking Volk beneath.

Police and ambulance crews responded urgently to the site. Paramedics immediately began resuscitation efforts but were unable to save him. A forensic physician later confirmed his death at the scene.

Investigation Underway

The Forensic Investigation Unit of the Aruba Police Department has launched an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the workplace accident. Officials from the Aruba Directorate of Supervision and Inspection (DTI) were also on-site to carry out their own investigation.

Victim support services have been provided to Volk’s family in the wake of the tragedy.
