Curaçao Concludes Successful Participation at UN General Assembly in New York

NEW YORK – Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas and his delegation have successfully concluded their participation in the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80) in New York. After a week filled with diplomatic talks, strategic meetings, and high-level events, Curaçao looks back on a constructive and fruitful mission on the world stage.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by:

Melissa Vásquez, Chief of Cabinet and senior advisor to the Prime Minister;

Djuric Comenentia, Secretary-General of the Ministry of General Affairs;

Vanessa van Dijsseldonk, staff member at the Cabinet of the Prime Minister.

During the visit, the Curaçaoan delegation engaged in discussions with world leaders and influential international policymakers. Key themes included sustainability, climate challenges, inclusive economic development, and global security, with particular attention given to the evolving geopolitical situation between Venezuela and the United States.

Prime Minister Pisas also held bilateral talks with fellow heads of government and participated actively in several international forums. In these exchanges, he highlighted the perspectives of Small Island Developing States (SIDS), stressing both the opportunities and challenges facing the Caribbean and similar regions.

Curaçao’s presence at UNGA80 contributed to strengthening international cooperation and placed the island, as part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, firmly on the global map. The mission provided a valuable platform to deepen relations and to call for collective action on urgent global issues that directly impact both the Caribbean region and the world at large.

Prime Minister Pisas expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the mission, describing it as an “intensive and successful working visit that strengthens Curaçao’s international position and supports the island’s future development.”
