WILLEMSTAD – The government of Curaçao has issued an official response to the final report of the CARICOM Election Observation Mission (CEOM) on the March 21, 2025 elections. While much public debate has focused on the report’s recommendation to strengthen rules on campaign financing, the government emphasized that the observers confirmed the elections were conducted in line with existing laws and procedures, reflecting the will of the Curaçaoan people.
According to the government’s press release, the CEOM concluded that the elections were carried out professionally and without major incidents. The observers praised the Electoral Council of Curaçao for its excellent organization and commitment to democratic processes.
The government stated it takes the recommendations seriously, particularly those related to transparency in party and campaign financing. However, it also pointed out that Curaçao already has a legal framework in place under the National Ordinance on the Finances of Political Groups.
Moving forward, the government, in collaboration with the independent Electoral Council, will explore how CEOM’s recommendations can be translated into concrete measures for future elections. Officials stressed that such steps will help further strengthen public trust in both the electoral and democratic process.
The CEOM confirmed in its report that Curaçao has a “robust and reliable” election system, a point the government said should be a source of national pride.
Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas expressed gratitude to the CEOM for its independent observation and reporting. He called the March 21 elections “a testament to the strength of Curaçao’s democratic traditions” and said he was proud of the way the elections were organized and carried out.
