Curaçao Parliament to Introduce Parliamentary Awards and Code of Conduct

WILLEMSTAD – For the first time, the Parliament of Curaçao will present Parliamentary Awards to citizens and organizations that have made exceptional contributions to the community. According to Speaker of Parliament Fergino Brownbill, the initiative is meant to highlight dedication and inspiration by recognizing individuals and groups who help others move forward and strengthen society as a whole.

The announcement was made during the opening of the 2025–2026 parliamentary year, where Brownbill addressed both members of Parliament and the people of Curaçao. He emphasized that Parliament is the heart of democracy, “a place where the voice of the people is heard and valued.”

Alongside the new awards, Brownbill also announced the introduction of a Parliamentary Code of Conduct. A special oversight body will ensure integrity within the legislature. “Integrity is not a luxury, but a duty,” the Speaker said, stressing that trust in politics depends on it.

Brownbill further called for greater unity and leadership at a time when Curaçao faces significant social, economic, and financial challenges. He noted that every challenge also presents an opportunity to emerge stronger.

With words of faith, gratitude, and love for the country, Brownbill formally declared the new parliamentary year open.
