Curaçaoan Artist Returns Home for Creative School Project ‘Back to Your Hood’

WILLEMSTAD - Curaçaoan artist Shardenia Felicia has returned to the island to collaborate with students from two local schools on a creative community project titled “Back to Your Hood.” Now based in the Netherlands, Felicia is working with the students to explore how they view their neighborhoods and what changes they hope to see in their communities.

The project, organized by the Instituto Buena Bista (IBB) in partnership with the Amarte Fund, involves students from St. Paulus VSBO and Radulphus College. Through art and discussion, Felicia aims to help students reflect on social challenges and express their ideas for improvement.

The collaboration will culminate in two large paintings and a short film documenting the creative process and the personal stories shared by the participating students.

“It doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful,” said Felicia, describing her artistic approach and the project’s message.

The final works will be presented on Wednesday, October 29, at Instituto Buena Bista on Mohikanenweg 8, Willemstad. The presentation begins at 6:00 p.m., and admission is free. Visitors are encouraged to park at Capriles Kliniek and walk to the IBB venue.

The event invites the public to celebrate youth creativity, cultural identity, and the power of art to inspire positive change in Curaçao’s communities.
