TOKYO – Curaçao sprinter Taymir Burnet has helped the Dutch men’s 4x100 meter relay team achieve a historic bronze medal at the World Athletics Championships.
Running alongside teammates Nsikak Ekpo, Xavi Mo-Ajok, and Elvis Afrifa, Burnet clocked a time of 37.81 seconds, setting a new Dutch national record. The Netherlands finished behind only the United States and Canada, while Ghana narrowly missed the podium in fourth place.
This marks only the second time in history that the Dutch men’s team has won a World Championship medal in the sprint relay. The first was in 2003, with the team of Timothy Beck, Troy Douglas, Patrick van Balkom, and Calmin Douglas.
For Burnet, the bronze medal is the culmination of years of dedication as part of the Dutch sprint squad. He has previously reached international finals with the relay team, but this is the first time his efforts have translated into a World Championship podium finish.
