WILLEMSTAD - After several quiet years during the pandemic, the CuraSur International Masters Basketball Tournament is making a grand comeback. From October 26 to November 3, Curaçao will once again host teams from across the Caribbean, Europe, and the Americas for eight days of basketball, friendship, and competition at the SDK Stadium.
This marks the 13th edition of the tournament, which began in 2008 as a friendly matchup between Curaçao and Suriname and has since grown into a major international sporting event. Over the years, the competition has welcomed teams from Suriname, French Guiana, Guyana, the Netherlands, Aruba, Bonaire, the United States, the Dominican Republic, and of course, Curaçao.
Organizers expect to welcome more than 200 visitors this year, including former international players and well-known athletes who will travel to Curaçao with their families. In addition to the tournament games, the foundation will also host youth basketball clinics led by experienced players from several countries, giving young athletes the opportunity to learn directly from professionals.
As is tradition, the tournament will be dedicated to a notable basketball figure, and this year’s honoree is Randy Wiel — the internationally acclaimed Curaçaoan player, coach, and manager whose successful career in the United States and Europe has made him an inspiring role model for the island’s young athletes.
The return of the CuraSur Masters Tournament not only celebrates basketball but also underscores Curaçao’s growing role as a regional hub for sports tourism and international collaboration.
