THE HAGUE – The state of education in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom remains a pressing concern, according to the GroenLinks-PvdA faction in the Dutch House of Representatives. The party expressed alarm over the continuing problems in schools not only in Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten, but also in the BES islands.
“We are watching with dismay as too much continues to go wrong with education, across all parts of the Caribbean Kingdom,” the faction stated in its written input for a consultation with the Dutch ministers of Education.
GroenLinks-PvdA also criticized the parliamentary majority’s decision to downgrade a scheduled commission debate into a written round of questions. “The caretaker status of the cabinet is no excuse to let these problems drift,” the faction noted.
Despite the seriousness of the issue, other parties in parliament showed limited engagement. NSC submitted a handful of questions, while the VVD posed only one.
The GroenLinks-PvdA contribution stands out as the most comprehensive, signaling growing frustration about what the faction sees as a lack of urgency in addressing the challenges faced by Caribbean schools.
