WILLEMSTAD - The fatal shooting of a 32-year-old woman on Thursday in Saliña appears to have been the tragic end of a violent relationship, according to police. The case is being investigated as murder or manslaughter. The 36-year-old suspect, believed to be the victim’s ex-partner, took his own life two days later.
The woman was gunned down early Thursday morning next to her car on Kaya C. Winkel, near Lucky Cosmetics. She was struck multiple times by bullets, and despite the rapid arrival of emergency responders, she died at the scene.
The suspect reportedly fled the area on foot, throwing his firearm onto the roof of a nearby building. Police later confirmed that he was the former partner of the victim and that she had previously filed several police reports against him for threats and past shootings.
On Saturday morning, police located the suspect in San Pedro. As officers attempted to arrest him, he turned the weapon on himself and shot himself in the head. He was transported in critical condition to the Curaçao Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Additionally, during the night from Saturday to Sunday, police arrested a 51-year-old woman on suspicion of possible involvement in the case. Authorities are still investigating her role.
The Criminal Investigation Department (Recherche) is urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant information to come forward and contact the Curaçao Police Force (KPC).
