First-Ever Poetry Jukebox to Debut at Wintertuin Curaçao Kids Festival

WILLEMSTAD – Poetry will come alive in a brand-new way when the first Poetry Jukebox in Curaçao is unveiled on Saturday, September 13, during the Wintertuin Kids Festival at Het Curaçaosch Museum.

The creative installation, designed by local agency SineCera, gives children a chance to experience poetry in the same way people once chose songs from a jukebox. Instead of music, children select a theme card, hand it to the host, and then a young poet steps forward to perform an original poem on that theme. Each child receives a personal, one-of-a-kind performance.

To prepare for this unique project, Wintertuin Curaçao organized a free workshop for 10 young talents, teaching them how to write poetry on different themes and perform their work creatively. The workshop was led by poet and performer Tyson Hill, who also teaches creative writing courses with Wintertuin.

By participating, these children are not only developing their writing and performance skills but also becoming part of Curaçao’s very first Poetry Jukebox.

Festival organizers say the goal is to make poetry fun, interactive, and relatable for children, creating a “from child to child” experience that blends creativity with play.

The Wintertuin Kids Festival promises a day full of imagination and cultural activities for families. Organizers invite all young poetry enthusiasts—and the simply curious—to come discover the Poetry Jukebox and enjoy a festival of words, art, and fun.
