Foreigners’ barracks to be renovated

WILLEMSTAD - The illegals barracks in the SDKK prison are being refurbished and expanded. This is done with financial support from the Netherlands, as confirmed by Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath.

The Netherlands has pledged 132,000 euros last year to improve the barracks in which Venezuelan and other illegals are being held awaiting their deportation. That money has since been transferred. With the funds, the barracks are being prepared and the conditions are improved so that they meet international standards.

Initially, the intention was to build a separate shelter outside the prison, but that proved to be too expensive.
