Government of Curaçao Launches Second Edition of “Di bo, Pa bo, Ku bo” Campaign

WILLEMSTAD – The Ministry of Health, Environment & Nature (GMN) is launching for the second year the clean-up and social awareness campaign “Di bo, Pa bo, Ku bo”. The campaign, first held in 2024, resulted in the collection of 24 million kilos of waste, making a repeat more than justified. It focuses on cleaning up the island, promoting public health, and creating a culture of shared responsibility.

The campaign runs from September 20 through December 7, with waste collection bins placed at strategic locations across different zones of the island. These and other concrete actions are designed to improve proper waste collection and neighborhood cleanliness. In 2025, the emphasis is on waste separation and sustainable waste management, with greater attention to recycling and sustainability.

When the community understands that waste can also be valuable, it becomes easier to collect it properly. The government is therefore working on a new waste processing policy. Increasingly, waste can be reused or transformed into useful materials, such as plastic, cardboard, paper, metal, and glass. Organic waste, including fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, tea bags, and eggshells, can be composted. Even construction debris such as concrete and stones can be processed by a local company into reusable building material.

The main goal of the campaign is to clean up Curaçao, raise awareness about the future waste management system, and bring about sustainable change. For 2025, the campaign is divided into four zones. Information on which zone is next and where bins are located will be announced through local media and the government’s social media channels.

Zone 1: West will be the first zone.

Collection bins will be placed at the Westpunt field, Barber field, Soto community center, Tera Kòrá church, and Nos Logro Minimarket in Boka Sami/St. Michiel. They will be available from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during three weekends, starting September 20–21.

The official opening of “Di bo, Pa bo, Ku bo” will take place on World Clean Up Day. Each year, thousands of volunteers in Curaçao dedicate the day to removing trash from roadsides, beaches, and even the sea. By starting “Di bo, Pa bo, Ku bo 2025” on this date, the government wants to thank these volunteers and extend the spirit of this initiative for several months instead of just one day a year.

The campaign will kick off with a public event on Saturday, September 20, at Nos Logro Minimarket in Boka Samí/St. Michiel, starting at 7:00 p.m. Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas and Minister of Health Javier Silvania will deliver opening speeches, followed by a performance from Hóben na Timon.

The government of Curaçao invites all citizens to take part in the start of a season of cleaning and cooperation. Together we can work toward a more sustainable and healthier island.
