Jostiband Performs in the Garden of the Governor’s Palace

WILLEMSTAD - On October 7, the Jostiband from the Netherlands gave a spectacular concert in the garden of the Governor’s Palace. Among those in attendance were the Governor of Curaçao, H.E. Lucille George-Wout, and Minister Sithree van Heydoorn, along with special guests — people with intellectual disabilities from the local community.

The Jostiband is touring Curaçao from October 3 to 13 at the initiative of the Rotary Club of Curaçao. During their stay, the band will perform several concerts and offer workshops demonstrating their unique approach to making music. Instead of using traditional musical notation, they use colors on their instruments to indicate which keys or strings should be played.

The visit of the Jostiband to Curaçao was made possible through sponsorship from various companies and institutions in both the Netherlands and Curaçao. The instruments used by the band during their tour will be donated and remain on the island, allowing local participants to learn to make music using the same color-based method.

The Governor expressed her hope that the Jostiband’s example will inspire the creation of a similar band in Curaçao for people with intellectual disabilities.
