WILLEMSTAD – On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the Meteorological Service of Curaçao (Meteo) officially delivered a comprehensive report on climate change to the Minister of Traffic, Transportation, and Urban Planning, Charles Cooper. The handover was accompanied by a detailed presentation highlighting the key findings of the study.
The report outlines the projected impacts of climate change on Curaçao, including sea level rise, prolonged droughts, extended periods of extreme heat, and increasingly severe weather events. These developments pose significant challenges for the island’s infrastructure, environment, and long-term sustainability.
During the ceremony, Albert Martis, Director of the Meteorological Service, personally handed the report to Minister Cooper. The moment was witnessed by climate researcher Jonathan Zoetrum and quality and communications advisor Denrick Rombley, both of whom contributed to the preparation and presentation of the findings.
Minister Cooper emphasized the importance of the report as a tool for planning future policies and infrastructure projects. He noted that the government must take proactive steps to adapt to climate realities and ensure resilience for Curaçao’s communities.
The report will serve as a basis for broader policy discussions and inter-ministerial cooperation aimed at mitigating risks and strengthening Curaçao’s preparedness against climate change.
