Minister Hato Holds Dialogue with Curaçao Fire Department

WILLEMSTAD – On Monday, Minister of Justice Shalten Hato held an open dialogue with colleagues from the Curaçao Fire Department. The meeting provided an opportunity for staff to openly share their thoughts, concerns, and recommendations about developments within the corps. Minister Hato emphasized the importance of listening directly to the people who work every day to ensure the safety and protection of the community.

One of the main topics discussed was the strengthening process within the fire department. According to the minister, this process can no longer move at a slow pace. He stressed that more momentum is needed to reach the final goal. Hato assured participants that the priorities previously set for the fire department will remain in place moving forward. He regretted that the process has taken so long without concrete results but explained that the government auditor SOAB has now been given a special assignment to provide technical and administrative support so that the process can be finalized as quickly as possible. A new deadline will be set for the completion of this work.

The minister noted that Post Barber, Post Mundo Nobo, and the department’s headquarters are among the first priorities, with urgent repairs and improvements deemed essential for the fire service.

Another issue raised during the dialogue was the importance of training, continuous education, and personal development for fire personnel. Minister Hato underscored that investing in human capacity is fundamental to building a modern and efficient fire department.

He expressed gratitude for the dedication of the firefighters and for the open dialogue that took place, reaffirming the government’s commitment to work hand in hand with them to strengthen this vital institution.
