WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Minister of Justice Quincy Girigorie has angrily argued against the publication of a list containing 25 countries with the most murders per 100,000 inhabitants.
In this list, which is called 'list25.com', Curaçao is in 21st place with an average of more than 19 murders per 100,000 inhabitants per year, that should be an average of the past 10 years. But according to Girigorie, that figure is not correct.
He states that the number in Curaçao is just above 13 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants in the period between 2009 and 2018. A number that he says is still too high, but not as dramatic as in the list.
He regretted the publication because it could have adverse effects on tourism and was considering taking measures against the authors.
