WILLEMSTAD – Minister Cooper and Minister America have announced a major project aimed at promoting the wellbeing of the elderly in Curaçao. At present, the government is in the process of identifying suitable locations to develop a senior complex.
One of the identified sites is the large plot of land in the Santa Rosa area, better known as the former convent “Regina Assumpta” of the Brothers of Dongen. The location previously served as the premises of the former Department of Education. The plot measures approximately 10,000 m² and includes a building of significant cultural and historical value.
The Ministry of Traffic, Transport and Urban Planning (VVRP) has made the property available to the Ministry of Social Development, Labor and Welfare (SOAW) under a cooperation agreement. In this way, the government is working together to give a new purpose to land located at the heart of the Santa Rosa community.
SOAW has scheduled a technical study to enable the development of the senior complex. The intention is to use the heritage building as the centerpiece of the facility, with functions such as offices, a dining area, and multipurpose halls for activities.
Minister America, together with Minister Cooper, emphasized the importance of restoring and redeveloping the historic building in order to preserve its cultural heritage value while at the same time creating a modern facility dedicated to the wellbeing of the elderly on the island.
