PAR Leader Calls for Urgent Action to Address Inequalities in Curaçao’s Education System

WILLEMSTAD – Quincy Girigorie, leader of the political party PAR, has called for concrete solutions to address the persistent problems in Curaçao’s education system. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Girigorie highlighted the significant disparities in graduation rates among the island’s secondary schools as a pressing concern.

According to Girigorie, the wide gap in exam success rates between schools reveals deeper issues within the education system. He argued that the current structure fails to adequately support children from disadvantaged social backgrounds.

“I want us to have a real discussion about how we can support children whose parents face difficult social circumstances, so they have equal opportunities,” Girigorie said. “That is my goal.”

The PAR leader stressed the need for targeted assistance, pointing to challenges faced by many students, including hunger, lack of access to tutoring, and limited digital resources.

“Let’s talk about how to help children who go to school hungry, how to support children whose parents cannot afford homework assistance, and how to ensure that children without internet and computers at home can still participate in digital education,” Girigorie urged.

Girigorie emphasized that tackling these inequalities is vital not only for improving academic results but also for strengthening Curaçao’s social fabric. He called on policymakers, educators, and the wider community to work together on creating fairer opportunities for all students.
