WILLEMSTAD - The Parliament of Curaçao will convene shortly for its Question Hour, during which Minister of Justice Shalten Hato will face questions about the fire safety conditions at the Tax Office in Emmastad.
Previous inspection reports revealed that the building did not meet fire safety standards, raising concerns among staff and the public. However, according to the Ministry of Finance, nearly 2.8 million guilders have now been invested in fire escapes, emergency exits, and a new fire alarm system to bring the facility up to code.
During the session, Members of Parliament are also expected to discuss public confidence in the Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) — an issue that has drawn increasing attention in recent months.
Today’s meeting was originally scheduled earlier this month but had to be postponed due to technical problems caused by a lightning strike that disrupted parliamentary systems.
