Parliamentary Committee to Address Rising Bee Incidents in Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD – The Standing Committee on Health, Environment, and Nature of Parliament will hold a closed meeting on Thursday to discuss Curaçao’s growing bee problem. The meeting follows several incidents in recent months in which multiple people were injured and one person lost their life after being attacked by bees.

During the session, local beekeepers and experts will present their views on the situation. They will share experiences with current risks and propose measures aimed at both protecting public safety and ensuring the preservation of the island’s bee population.

Committee chairman Juniël Carolina is preparing a draft law intended to provide greater protection for both people and bees. The legislation is expected to draw inspiration from existing frameworks elsewhere in the region, such as Bonaire, where a similar approach has already been introduced.
