WILLEMSTAD - Several pensioners’ organizations and local trade union federations will meet on Thursday to discuss the future of Curaçao’s General Old Age Insurance (AOV) and the island’s pension system.
The meeting follows an earlier gathering organized by the APC pensioners’ association, which brought together representatives from the public sector, telecommunications, police, and utility companies.
Criticism of Government’s Dialogue Process
Oswin Martina, chairman of the pensioners’ association Upah, has been outspoken in his criticism of the government’s national dialogue process on pension reform. According to Martina, the initiative “resembles more a government presentation than a genuine dialogue.”
He emphasized that Thursday’s session, which will be held at the PWFC building, aims to establish a unified position among all pensioners’ groups.
“Our goal is to reach a common standpoint that reflects the real concerns of retirees,” Martina said.
The country’s main labor federations — SSK, CGTC, and Sentral Solidaridat di Kòrsou — have also been invited to take part in the discussions.
Organizers hope the meeting will strengthen coordination among unions and pensioner organizations, giving them a stronger collective voice in future talks with the government about the sustainability and fairness of Curaçao’s pension system.
